Despite the ongoing pandemic, the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest continues its educational activities in collaboration with schools from all over Greece with great success and high attendance.

Through digital educational presentations delivered by the museum’s staff in collaboration with Kindergartens, Primary Schools, Junior High Schools and HIgh Schools from all over Greece, students travel to Lesvos and the Petrified Forest through rich photographic material and impressive images and discover the rich geological and natural heritage of Lesvos.

Τhe 2nd Digital Geoparks Forum, organized by the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest took place on 23 and 24 February 2021 with great success. More than 240 240 representatives from the 161 World UNESCO Global Geoparks located in 44 countries around the world participated in the forum that was held through a digital platform.

With great success and the participation of 130 educators was held the online seminar on "Seismic hazard in the North Aegean and earthquake protection measures" on Wednesday 10 February 2021 in order to inform the Teachers of Primary Education of Lesvos, following the seminar that was organized for the teachers of Secondary Education.

The purpose of the two seminars was to inform the teachers about the prevention and protection measures in case of an earthquake after the recent intense seismic activity that upset the residents of Lesvos.

On Monday, February 8, at 18:00, the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos in collaboration with the Directorate of Secondary Education of Lesvos, the Organization for Earthquake Planning and Protection, the Directorate of Civil Protection, the North Aegean Region and the UNESCO Chair for Geoparks and the sustainable development of island and coastal areas of the University of the Aegean organizes an online seminar on "Seismic hazard in the North Aegean and earthquake protection measures" in order to inform the Teachers of Secondary Education of Lesvos.

The Kalloni Environmental Information Center continues counting and documenting the birds of the island!!

In particular, on last Sunday the Midwinter Waterfowl Counts in Lesvos were completed by the Center’s scientific staff. Midwinter Waterfowl Survey is the longest (34 years) and the widest (143 countries) Program of biodiversity documentation in the world.

The most numerous bird species this year was the Flamingo with 1550 birds and then the Great Crested Grebe (in the bay sea) with 750 birds!!
