An exploration of the captivating fossil bearing areas on land and in water at the Marine Park of the Petrified Forest of Nisiopi, organised by the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos, will take place this Sunday July 17th 2022 at 12pm.
The Marine Park of the Petrified Forest of Nisiopi is the first to offer visitors the breathtaking experience of exploring and interacting with marine fossils in Greece. Visitors have the opportunity to float around Nisiopi, discover and observe the more obscure and secluded areas of the petrified forest, encounter the volcanic past of the coastal regions, and the natural underwater sculpture that the captivating geomorphs form harmoniously together.
The starting point of the exploration is the Museum where visitors can watch an informative screening in the park’s creation, the fossil-bearing areas, the current marine and terrene ecosystems, and the breathtaking coasts of Nisiopi. It will prepare its visitors for the quite unreal interactive experience that will follow!
Afterwards, visitors will be taken to the port of Sigri to travel inside a special boat with glass flooring for exciting and colorful engagement with the underwater world. The adventure will continue on land where they will encounter the numerous fragments of petrified trees sprinkled on the islet as well as the largest downed petrified trunk of a tree on the island!
