The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest is a place of education, knowledge and inspiration. Following the current theory and practices of Museum Education, it designs and implements educational programs for students of all levels of education, children of all ages and families.
The Museum operates the Lesvos Geopark and collaborates with many cultural, educational, research organizations and Museums. It is a founding member of the European and Global Geoparks Network, pioneered in the establishment of the network of the Museums of Lesvos, collaborates with schools and Environmental Education Centers, as well as with a significant number of research centers and universities in the framework of research activities.
The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest (Greek: Μουσείο Φυσικής Ιστορίας Απολιθωμένου Δάσους Λέσβου) is a geological museum located in the village of Sigri on the island of Lesbos in Greece. Established in 1994, it is a center for the study, management, and preservation of the petrified forest of Lesbos and for public education about the site. It is a founding member of the European Geoparks Network and is a member of UNESCO's Global Geoparks Network.

Educational Activity “Petrified and present day plants of Lesvos”
The children will become researchers and are invited to look for and study the fossilized and modern day plants of the area of the Lesvos Petrified Forest. They will visit the exhibition spaces and the open-air botanical garden of the Museum and create their own herbarium.

Afternoon guided tour at the Plaka Petrified Forest Park
Plaka Park is located 800 meters south of the settlement of Sigri and is an important protected fossil bearing site. It consists of two sections, the coastal and the land, in which the research works of the Museum have revealed important plant fossils.

Presentation and Educational Activity “The Aligator of Liota”
The life size model of the Alligator of Liota will be presented to the Museum friends. During the presentation, visitors will have the opportunity to see up close the model of the Alligator of Liota and get to know details about the alligators that lived on the island, the environment in which they lived, as well as the palaeontological excavations and the systematic research to identify the animals that lived in the area of the Petrified Forest. The presentation will be followed by a special educational program, which introduces the children to the evidence of paleontological research that led to the identification of animals that lived in the Petrified Forest of Lesvos.
