The conifers of the Lesvos Petrified Forest make up the largest and the most impressive class of fossils. The conifers collection includes pines (Pinaceae), yews (Taxaceae) and the cypress (Cuprassaceae). The Cuprassaceae family includes the Taxodiaceae family, once a separate family, which includes species as cunninghamia and ancestral sequoias of which the Museum has excavated fossils of enormous dimensions.

The ancestral forms of sequoias are the most impressive finds included in the collections of the Museum.
