The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest (Greek: Μουσείο Φυσικής Ιστορίας Απολιθωμένου Δάσους Λέσβου) is a geological museum located in the village of Sigri on the island of Lesbos in Greece. Established in 1994, it is a center for the study, management, and preservation of the petrified forest of Lesbos and for public education about the site. It is a founding member of the European Geoparks Network and is a member of UNESCO's Global Geoparks Network.
The Museum invites its young friends to contribute, through this special activity, to the effort to protect and highlight the natural and cultural wealth of Lesvos, which has been designated a UNESCO World Geopark. Every idea is useful for this purpose and every idea can be expressed through the creation of a fanzine - amateur magazine!
The Museum invites you to create your own fanzine for Lesvos - UNESCO Global Geopark by choosing a specific location, which is of particular geological or cultural interest.
This action is linked to the United Nations campaign to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as it connects the sites of interest and the monuments of Lesvos with proposals for the implementation of the SDGs.
Each fanzine will include proposals regarding the sustainable development for each site of natural or cultural significance that should be linked to the goal of facing climate change.
Use your imagination and create your own fanzine - magazine, which will have the shape, size and colors that you will choose. It will be made by hand or digitally on the computer and will include a drawing , a picture or a photo of the place you will choose as well as your own sustainable plan for it. How would you like it to be in 10 years, what suggestions do you have for its protection and promotion?
