Very important are the results of the meeting of the Committee of Sciences of the 41st General UNESCO Conference approving the program and the actions for the years 2022-2023, as well as initiatives in the field of science. In particular, in the context of the Meeting of the Committee on Science, were established the International Day for Geodiversity on October 6 each year and the new Open Science program, which concerns the removal of restrictions on the interconnection of scientific databases and free access to the data of scientific research around the world.
The nature excursions of the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest and the Kalloni Enviromental Information Center aiming to promote the acquaintance of the public with the natural wealth of Lesvos Geopark are being continued!
On the occasion of the COP26 World Climate Conference, that takes place in Glaskow from October 31st to November 12th 2021, the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest will present you its actions and initiatives in the fight against Climate Change. Through its permanent and periodic exhibitions, the Museum attempts to explore the climate change of the past by presenting its findings that are indicators of climate change and to raise awareness on the current threat.
Two interesting excursions at the Petrified Forest in Bali Alonia, known also as “Kiria Apolithomeni” were implemented on 23 October and 6 November 2021 by the expert scientists of the Msuseum. Al the participants were really impressed by the unique fossils in their original location in the Park and the techniques and methods used for their promotion and maintenance. The good autumn weather created the right setting for a perfect experience.

From today, Monday 1st November 2021 there are new winter opening hours for both the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest and the Petrified Forest Park.
