European Geoparks Week 2021

22 May-6 June

European Geoparks Week, the big celebration of the European Geoparks, is organized again this year by Geoparks from all over Europe, for the nineteenth consecutive year. Lesvos-UNESCO Global Geopark participates in the European Geoparks Week 2021 with a variety of activities for young and older ones that will take place between May 22 and June 6 2021.

We are really happy to be able to celebrate today the International Museum Day 2021 at the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest, together with the public, after a few days of its reopening.

This year’s theme “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine” reminds us that the time is now for museums to rethink their relationship with the communities they serve, to experiment with new and hybrid models of cultural fruition and to strongly reaffirm the essential value of museums for the construction of a just and sustainable future.

With great success took place the birdwatching excursions of the Kalloni Environmental Information Center at the Kalloni Salt Pans, on Sunday, May 16, 2021. The first event of KPEN after the lifting of the restrictions, attracted the public’s attention and the interest of participation was high.

The participants had the unique opportunity to observe the spring passage of the birds that is at its peak these days. Around 50 different species of birds were spotted!
