Lesvos island Unesco Global Geopark - Λέσβος Παγκόσμιο Γεωπάρκο Unesco welcomed three volunteers from Germany as part of a new collaboration between the Greek and German National Commissions for UNESCO, which enables Greek UNESCO Global Geoparks to host young people from Germany for a 6-month internship.
Following all the covid-19 health protocols and with great responsibility we restart the sports activities in the nature of Lesvos, with the mountain running race MOUNTAIN TRAIL RUN AGIASOS, on Sunday, June 27, 2021, in the area of Agiasos, at the foot of the enchanting Olympus, one of the most important geosites of Lesvos!

(10:00) Cleaning of the Kalloni wetlands from plastics, bird watching at Kalloni Salt Pans in collaboration with the Ogranization «Lesvos Plastic Free»

The International Summer School on Geoparks, the main training course of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Program for Geoparks professionals, that takes place every year In Lesvos, begun today with great success. The Summer School will be held online due to the Covid-19 restrictions, from 7 to 20 June, under the theme “UNESCO Global Geoparks and Sustainability”.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 2th June, at 9.00 am., begins the Scientific Conference of the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean on the topic: "Geography in a Changing World", that will be held online on 2-4 June 2021, with the participation of many distinguished speakers form Greece and abroad.
At the conference about 200 scientific papers will be presented online, which cover the five main thematic areas around which the Conference revolves: 1. Anthropogeography, 2. Physical Geography, 3. Spatial Planning and Development, 4. Geoinformatics, 5. Geographical Education
